Tulsa Sports Commission names director of sales

7.7.2011
Ray Hoyt, senior vice president of VisitTulsa and executive director of Tulsa Sports Commission, announced today the selection of Alex Alston as director of sales for the Tulsa Sports Commission.

Alston previously held the position of events manager for the Gainesville Sports Commission in Gainesville, Fla., and holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree in sports management from the University of Florida.

“Attracting and hosting sports-related events is big business and growing quickly in markets similar to Tulsa,” said Hoyt. “We have gained a lot of momentum over the past year and it is critical we keep it going. Alex has the experience, connections and enthusiasm we were looking for to step in, take over our leads and convert them into business for Tulsa.”

In his new role as director of sales, Alston will be responsible for supervising and coordinating daily activities for the Tulsa Sports Commission including ongoing recruitment and solicitation of new sports-related conventions, tournaments and clinics to the Tulsa region. He will work to foster support for the TSC with area media, businesses, event coordinators, local and state sports associations and national governing bodies in the athletics field.

The Tulsa Sports Commission is a program of the Tulsa Metro Chamber that exists to create and attract major sporting events to the Tulsa region creating a positive economic impact and enhancing the quality of life.
